2000 California Peace Prize Goes to Three Activists
The California Wellness Foundation is proud to honor its 2000 California Peace Prize awardees: Father Greg Boyle, Matt Sanchez and Gianna Tran. Each receives a $25,000 grant to acknowledge their work to reduce violence in their communities. Distinguished by their impressive personal and professional backgrounds, these unsung heroes have improved the health of their communities and shown us that violence can be prevented.

The California Peace Prize honors individuals whose outstanding efforts have helped prevent violent deaths and injuries in communities across California. Many of those recognized by this award worked countless hours – with little notice outside their communities – at proven violence prevention activities to make a difference in the lives of the people they touch. Awardees not only spend time helping individuals improve their health through violence prevention, but plant the seeds that will ensure healthy futures for all Californians.

Since 1993, TCWF has awarded peace prizes to 24 Californians. The awardees' backgrounds are varied, but they all share the experience of witnessing violence's effects and working with their communities to find solutions. All of them continue to make a difference today.
