Communications Department Adds New Staff
Woodland Hills, CA - A promoted employee and two new hires are among
the professionals helping The California Wellness Foundation tell its story around the
state.
"We recognize the importance of communicating effectively with different audiences
as we strive to improve the health of Californians," said Gary L.Yates, President and
CEO of the Foundation. "Our staff demonstrates a strong complement of talents and
skills well suited to this effort."
Julio Marcial was promoted to communications associate in November 1999 after 18 months
with the Foundation. He is a graduate of the Sociology of Mass Communication program at
the University of California, Santa Barbara and a member of both the California Chicano
News Media Association and the Communications Network. Marcial primarily assists with
maintaining the website and cataloguing information on Foundation-funded publications and
videos. "I'm honored to be a part of an organization that's making a difference in
communities all across California," he said.
Communications Associate Erika Alicia McCarden honed her skills in public relations
working for the Los Angeles Lakers, Forum Sports and NBC4 television before joining the
Foundation in November 1999. "I am happy to have the opportunity to apply my
communications experience at such a reputable and respected foundation as The California
Wellness Foundation," McCarden said. The San Francisco native was raised in Inglewood
and has been a member of the Black Public Relations Society since 1993. She is production
coordinator and writer for the Foundation newsletter and assists with other Foundation
publications.
Cindy Rae Hall fills the communications assistant position vacated by Marcial,
providing administrative support to director Magdalena Beltrán-del Olmo and four others.
She was formerly with the National Conference for Community and Justice in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
The California Wellness Foundation is an independent, private foundation, created in
1992, whose mission is to improve the health of the people of California by making grants
for health promotion, wellness education and disease prevention. TCWF has awarded 1,752
grants totaling nearly $271 million since 1992.
