Health Policy Summit to Focus on Health Care Access Issues in Los Angeles County
"The Golden Key: Unlocking Opportunities in Health Care Access" is the theme of the inaugural Health Care Policy Summit of the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County. The summit will include workshops on health care for seniors, the disabled and the homeless, and integrating mental health and primary care. The event will be held June 9 at the Center for Healthy Communities in Los Angeles. The registration deadline is May 30. read more

May is Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month
A study released by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy reports that nearly one-third of sexually experienced teenage girls have been pregnant and more than one in eight sexually experienced teenage boys have caused a pregnancy. In honor of Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month, the website of the private, nonpartisan National Campaign provides a scenario-based quiz for teens in addition to comprehensive teen pregnancy prevention information and practical tips. read more

Health Affairs Article by TCWF Directors Examines Value of Retreats for Health Advocates
Ruth Brousseau, TCWF director of evaluation and organizational learning, and Ruth Holton-Hodson, director of public policy, have co-authored “Strengthening A State’s Health Advocacy Infrastructure,” published in the May/June issue of Health Affairs. The report evaluates the effectiveness of TCWF’s two-day retreats for health advocates in providing an opportunity for strategic planning, strengthening participants’ relationships with one another and identifying potential new collaborations. New Survey Reports on Challenges Faced By Nonprofit Leaders
Daring to Lead 2006: A National Study of Nonprofit Executive Leadership surveys nearly 2,000 nonprofit executive directors from eight U.S. cities. Among the findings: 75 percent plan to leave their current jobs within five years, citing frustrations with disengaged boards, the logistical requirements of institutional funders and below-market salaries. Fundraising is cited by 73 percent as the area most in need of improved board performance. The survey is a joint project of the Meyer Foundation and CompassPoint Nonprofit Services. read more
