Recent Publications From TCWF Grantees

• Californians for Pesticide Reform (CPR) released a report prepared by Physicians for Social Responsibility titled “Pesticides and Human Health.” The report, one in a series produced by CPR, examines the acute effects of pesticide exposure. The 60-page report provides information on correlations between pesticides and cancer, respiratory diseases and neurological and reproductive health problems. • Alliance for Justice published a 250-page guide titled “The Co/Motion Guide to Youth-Led Social Change.” The manual outlines the processes and steps of working for change, such as: research, campaign planning, community organizing, making and meeting a budget and working with the media. Actual youth-led campaigns from throughout the country are shared as positive examples. The guide is available for $30 by calling (202) 822-6070. Student rates are available.

• The School Health Programs Department of the San Francisco Unified School District published a 16-page report titled “The Wellness Project: Healthy Body, Mind and Spirit.” The publication shares lessons learned and provides results of the school district’s wellness program for middle-school students from 1995 to 2000. After implementing “The Wellness Project,” participating schools saw decreases in suspensions and increased levels of physical activity and involvement in drug abuse prevention activities among students. • The Foundation for Taxpayer & Consumer Rights, with assistance from the California Department of Managed Care, published a 79-page guide titled “The California Patient’s Guide.” The resource instructs managed care patients how to resolve health care disputes and explains many patient rights.
