TCWF Grantees Attend Conferences

Two of TCWF’s priority areas each held conferences to allow grantees to network with one another and share lessons learned. Health Improvement Initiative grantees of TCWF’s Population Health Improvement priority area attended a conference on February 21-23, in Aptos. TCWF’s Work and Health priority area grantees attended a conference sponsored by TCWF, The California Endowment and The Rockefeller Foundation on March 15-16, in San Francisco.

2000 Annual Report Available

TCWF’s 2000 Annual Report features a cover story on the accomplishments of the Health Improvement Initiative grantees of the Population Health Improvement priority area. The report has been posted on www.tcwf.org in the publications section.

Youth Share Experiences in National Magazine

The winter 2001 issue of the Community Youth Development Journal features an article about the youth-led “wellness villages” of TCWF’s Children and Youth Community Health Initiative. The article focuses on the thoughts and experiences of youth involved in all phases of the grantmaking program, including those serving on the Initiative Advisory Committee. Violence Prevention Public Information Campaign

The Choices for Youth Campaign is a new phase of the violence prevention public information campaign funded by a grant from TCWF to i.e. communications. To learn more about the campaign, visit www.preventviolence.org.

Kudos

Stewart Kwoh, board member, was honored as one of California Community Foundation’s “85 Unsung Heroes of the Nonprofit Community” in its 2000 annual report.

In May 2001, Gary L. Yates, president and CEO, was elected treasurer of the Council on Foundations’ board of directors. In this capacity he will chair the audit and investment committee.

Joan Hurley, director of grants administration, was profiled by Grants Managers Network, an affinity group of the Council on Foundations, in its winter 2001 newsletter.

In March 2001, Magdalena Beltrán-del Olmo, director of communications, was selected by California State University, Northridge, to receive an honorary membership in Kappa Tau Alpha, the national honor society in journalism and mass communications.

In April 2001, Alicia Procello, program director, was appointed a commissioner to the Los Angeles County Health Facilities Authority Commission.
